This is the second phase of the expansion. Malcolm X College finished a renovation that created new labs for biology.
The shooting happened just after 10:30 p.m. in the 2700 block of West Harrison Street.
At the “Trunk or Treat” part on the West Side, so many families came in that organizers ran out of food. UCAN, which organized the party, predominantly serves kids who are in care of the state or have been removed from their homes. Sara Machi reports.
Chicago police said the man was arguing inside the store with another person who then pulled out a gun and fired shots in the victim's direction.
Three police officers ended up in the hospital after they were punched and kicked at the funeral on the city's West Side. Megan Hickey reports.
The shooting happened around 9:41 p.m. Friday in the 200 block of North Kedzie Avenue.
"This is disheartening to me that something like this could take place with such casualness," said Loyola University Chicago professor of criminology Arthur Lurigio.
The number of people seen stealing TVs and other electronics, and air fryers, was enough to make one question how so many people were able to pull it off and escape.
There was no immediate information on a cause or injuries.
Chicago police said the victims were discovered on the sidewalk and inside a residence, but It is not clear where the shooting happened.
A 3-11 alarm fire was called for the blaze on Ogden Avenue.

Even after Chicago Police, Union Pacific police, and Metra police arrived on scene, people were still scaling the embankment at Lake Street and Lavergne Avenue to get onto the tracks. Jermont Terry reports.
A freight train carrying boxcars was stopped on the tracks near Lake Street and Laramie Avenue, and several boxcars were open.
Police did not provide further details about the human remains.
The contents of the box have been turned over to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office for investigation.

Both were taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in good condition, police said.
Police said a male pedestrian was struck while walking on the street by a possible Nissan Maxima that continued northbound on South Homan Avenue.
Police say four men were caught in the rail yard near the Stevenson Expressway and Pulaski.
The marine unit, K9 unit, and a police helicopter were used to search for the men. Three were placed in custody, and one remains at large.

Chicago police said just after 7:30 a.m., three people damaged the front glass door of the Whale Fish, Shrimp, and Chicken in the 3600 block of West Chicago Avenue in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.
