Man Killed, Two Injured In Fire At Senior Living Center

Investigators were trying to determine the cause of a fire that started around 2 a.m. in the 1200 block of 121st Street in Whiting, Indiana.
The Fire Department said the fire was "through the roof" at the Chicago Firehouse Restaurant, at 1401 S. Michigan Av. The building is literally a former Chicago firehouse, which was converted into a restaurant in 1999.
Tahir Khan and Maria Tahir tried to get their family out, but the stairway was blocked by flames. They dropped their two youngest children out a window, to people outside the building, and then jumped to escape the flames. Their oldest son, 10-year-old Ans Khan, didn't make it out.
The fire started around 8:25 a.m. and spread to the roof and top floor of the vacant building at 433 W. Van Buren St.
A vehicle was involved in an accident with a CTA bus in the 3900 block of West Ontario around 12:15 a.m., police said, citing preliminary information. One of the vehicles hit a building, which caught fire after the crash, police said.
