According to police, the victim was standing outside when he was approached by an unknown male who pulled out a firearm and shot the victim one time in the upper chest area.
Chicago police said around 12:44 a.m., officers responded to an unresponsive man lying in the street in the 6600 block of South Green Street.
The victim suffered head trauma and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition, where he died a short time later.
When the victims arrived to meet up with the man near 63rd and Morgan, the man pulled out a gun and demanded the victim's money and cell phone.

Robert Austin, 42, was arrested and charged with three felony counts of aggravated discharge of a firearm at an occupied vehicle.
The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
There is no word about what led to the outage or when service is expected to resume.
He's already attacked people at four locations.
