Chicago Fire Department officials said a person in their 70s was pulled out of a burning home in the 5900 block of South Elizabeth Street.
The victim was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in "very critical" condition and was later confirmed dead on Wednesday.
Police say a 5-year-old girl was found unresponsive inside the building and was pronounced dead on the scene.
The girl was dead when she was found in her bunk bed by firefighters. CBS 2's Sabrina Franza reports.

Chicago police said around 11:23 p.m., officers found the 31-year-old victim inside a white car unresponsive, in the 0-100 block of West 59th Street, he had been shot in the head and body.
Paramedics rushed the victim to the hospital in critical condition.
The shooting happened across the street from a church a little after 3 p.m. at 59th Street and Elizabeth Street.
A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people, in their 50s and 60s were taken to different hospitals in critical condition.
Witnesses stated they saw an unknown male who was shooting at the entrance of the alley and fled the scene in an unknown direction afterward.
Chicago police say four people were shot in an alley near 61st and Justine - just east of Ashland around 9 p.m.
