Charles Leto, 55, appeared in First Appearance Court on Sunday on one count each of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The incident happened on June 21 around 1:40 a.m. in the 0–100 block of West 69th Street.
Boone County Sheriff Scott Yunk said, around 3:20 p.m., deputies responded to a report of a plane crash in a corn field in Capron, Illinois, about 90 miles northwest of Chicago, near the Wisconsin state line.
Police said, shortly before 4 p.m., the victims were inside a business in the 800 block of East 63rd Street, when two people walked in, pulled out handguns, and started shooting.
Charles Leto, 55, has been charged with one count each of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder, aggravated battery, and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
The trooper and the other driver both were taken to the hospital to be treated for injuries.
The ages of the victims range from 20 to 55.
During this investigation, 20 firearms and three machine gun Conversion Devices were recovered.
Chicago police said the body was recovered just before 12:30 p.m. in the 6300 block of South Hayes Drive.
The crash happened just before 10 p.m. on northbound Illinois 394, just north of Dyer Road.
When the suspects arrived at a Gurnee-area hotel and offered money for sexual acts, they were arrested and taken to the Lake County Jail, sheriffs said.
The crash happened near Marquette and Langley, leaving debris and bricks inside and outside the building.
