A Soaking...

We are wrapping up a couple of beauties..now as we look ahead, the weather will be headed downhill. An area of low pressure in the Great Lakes will throw a strong front at us Wednesday. The system has a lot of upper level energy, driven by a strong jetstream for this time of year.
The high yesterday in Boston was 92...just the 4th time this year that Logan has reached 90. There won't be a 5th today...a coldfront has slipped through and temps have fallen and leveled off in the 70s and the humidity will ease throughout the afternoon.
We spent three straight days in the 70s here in Boston and now we are on the cusp of some heat. Temps will warm today and top out in the 85-90 degree range with increasing amounts of humidity.
The great white shark population is exploding and that has some people surprisingly happy.
It was a sweet way to finish up a rain filled week...highs in the 70s and lower 80s...low humidity and lots of sunshine. The hope is that this weather will spill into the weekend and some of it will.
The air certainly feels different today with dew points in the lower 70s...there is ample moisture surging northward up the Eastern Seaboard a key ingredient for strong to severe thunderstorms. Another ingredient is the sun...it heats the air near the ground so that it can rise into the sky forming towering thunderheads.
Hurricane Arthur is coming this way and will likely pass 50 miles or so east of Nantucket Friday night.
We are now cautiously optimistic that most of the festivities should go off without a hitch (or a storm).
While all eyes are on Hurricane Arthur right now...we need to monitor the thunderstorm situation this afternoon and most importantly this evening with Boston Pops Concert and fireworks at the Hatch Shell. Right now the air is primed for storm development...very warm and humid...and scattered storms are likely this afternoon.
The latest data almost assures us of a washout in most of eastern New England Friday afternoon and night.
Tropical Storm Arthur is forming off the coast of Florida and, as luck would have it, will likely be making its closest pass by southern New England on Friday night, perhaps as a hurricane.
As the heat and humidity continue to build here in New England this week the tropics may be heating up too. A cluster of thunderstorms is likely to get its act together and form into the first tropical system of the season off of the Southeastern United States.
A round of soaking rain-swept through early this morning and rain amounts were impressive...some communities picked up over an inch of rain in a very short amount of time resulting in some short-term street and parking lot flooding.
It's the first Monday of Summer and it seems the days just keep getting better and better. Today will be sun-filled and comfortably warm with near 80 inland and holding in the 70s along the coast with a developing gentile onshore breeze. Tomorrow muggier air begins to flow back in to Southern New England as a cold front gets closer and closer.
Well we are sailing into the weekend and the weather couldn't be better...not too hot, not too cold, low humidity, lots of sunshine and no rain! Seriously, this might be the best weekend of the Summer and speaking of the Summer, it begins tomorrow morning at 6:51. Temperatures over the weekend will mostly be in the 70s, a few spots may nudge 80 and that would occur away from the coast and any sea breeze.
A cold front slipped through earlier this morning pushing the heat and humidity out of here for the foreseeable future. I use the word heat loosely here because we didn't even touch 90...87 was the best we could do.
So we just had a couple of stunning days...sunny, warm yet very low humidity. That's all about to change as heat and humidity will build in over the next couple of days. We have yet to touch 90 degrees here in Boston this year and the last time we did was last September. The average date for the first 90 degree day is June 8th...so we aren't too far off.
The weekend is off and running but it's pretty slow out of the gate. A warm front to our south produced inundating rain with many towns picking up an inch if not more. The soaking downpours have moved out for now but it's still rather miserable out with lingering mist, drizzle and dense fog. Now we look ahead to Father's Day weekend and the hope is for some sunshine and we'll get it...just not easily.
Thunderstorm chances will be running fairly high this afternoon and we will have to keep an eye on the radar...storms that form will have heavy rain, lightning, gusty wind and possible hail.
After a glorious weekend with back to back 80+ degree days, the weather is going to become somewhat unsettled as very muggy air flows into New England over the next 24 hours.
Your lawns and gardens will love today...your outdoor plans will not. An area of low pressure is in the process of developing a stronger center in our coastal waters.
April is now gone and left a sour taste in our mouths but May has arrived and with the new month comes a new weather pattern...one that's a little sweeter.
Wasn't that fun! If you were up early you witnessed a wild scene this morning...heavy rain flipped to heavy sleet and then nearly white-out conditions as a dynamic system barreled through the State. Logan Airport officially measured 0.3". While snow in April is rare, it's not unheard of, in fact today's snow wasn't even the record snowfall for the day...Logan picked 1.0" back in 1992.
