Data from the Texas Department of State Health Services shows only El Paso County has more active cases than Tarrant County.
"We are echoing the requests of our health care heroes: that everyone make sacrifices this year to protect our community and save lives," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.
The Texas Department of State Health Services says, it will take a different approach, prioritizing adults 65 and older and anyone over 16 years old with certain high risk health conditions.
"We're receiving 100 doses to give our firefighters," said Farmers Branch Fire Chief Gabriel Vargas. "I'm glad we were selected. We can't wait to start pushing it out."
Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins said 1,000 people are hospitalized with COVID-19 for the first time during the pandemic.
Dallas County Health and Human Services reported 1,382 additional positive cases of COVID-19 in Dallas County on Thursday, along with 10 more deaths.
The first Pfizer vaccine shipments arrived this week at North Texas hospitals. The state expects to receive even more in the coming weeks.
"Today's number of 2,438 cases is 250 more new cases than we have ever experienced in any one day," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.
Randy Isenberg said hours after getting the infusion, he felt like a new person. "It means that your fever's gone. The muscle aches, the fatigue."
There is a cumulative total of 147,591 COVID-19 cases in Dallas County, including 1,391 deaths.
"It's an emotional and exciting day. We've been dealing with this since March taking care of the sickest patients here," said Dr. Zachary Dreyfuss, an ICU physician.
There is a cumulative total of 146,042 cases (PCR test), including 1,385 deaths after six more were announced on Monday, the same day the first COVID-19 vaccines were given in the U.S.
There are currently 101 active long-term care facility outbreaks. This is the highest number of long-term care facilities with active outbreaks in Dallas County.
