Around 12:01 a.m., a man and woman were inside a vehicle on the 4400 block of Auburn Boulevard when they were shot. The woman was pronounced dead at the scene, and the man was taken to the hospital, the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office said.
Police said the fatal hit-and-run happened near West Hedding Street and Coleman Avenue, just before 2:30 a.m.
The CHP said that around 2:40 a.m., the driver of a Honda, for unknown reasons, veered off the roadway, went onto the shoulder and then up an embankment. The vehicle then crashed into a guardrail and overturned.

A vehicle struck three juveniles who were walking in rural Napa County, Cal Fire said. Two of the victims were taken by air ambulance to UC Davis in Sacramento.
The operator of the e-scooter was arrested on suspicion of operating a bicycle under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs and DUI causing bodily injury.
According to police, since Dec. 13, they have received six reports of someone entering people's yards in East Oakland, peering into occupied homes and engaging in inappropriate behavior.

London Scott, 15, Xyer Thomas, 16, and Kaliyah Jones, 17, were last seen in San Leandro on Friday, around 6:20 p.m., near 163rd Avenue and East 14th Street, the CHP said.
The suspect crashed into an uninvolved Sacramento police patrol vehicle after ignoring a stop sign at 8th Avenue, the sheriff's office said. The impact sent the patrol vehicle into a residential fence, while the suspect's vehicle caught fire.
Metro Fire said the fire began on the first floor and spread to the second floor due to strong wind conditions. It then spread into the attic space.
