A driver led San Francisco police onto the Bay Bridge during a car chase Wednesday evening and caused a temporary closure of multiple eastbound lanes, just west of Treasure Island, police said.
The fire department said the driver got lost in Crockett and ended up in a narrow residential street. When the driver tried to turn a corner, they struck a hydrant, careened into two parked cars, crashed into a fence, and then went down an embankment.
The investigation began on Feb. 14 when police found a body face down in San Tomas Aquino Creek, south of Tasman Drive, after being called to the area. Police said the man had last been seen on the night of Feb. 8, near Pruneridge Avenue and Lawrence Expressway.
Crews responded to the 500 block of Dwight Street for a 1-alarm fire and found a home with major damage to its interior. San Francisco Fire said firefighters found a person inside the building, and that they were declared dead at the scene.
Crews were called to the scene and found the vehicle on fire in a wooded area off Interstate 280 in San Mateo County.
