Police said they received a call around 1:45 p.m. about a possible body being in the water behind the Gordon Hill Flower Shop and Davenport properties.
At the scene, one person was found injured. Police said the victim was taken to the hospital with an injury that was not life-threatening.
Police said officers arrived at the scene and found three people injured: a 20-year-old man, a 21-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman. They were all taken to the hospital, but the 21-year-old was pronounced dead.
Police said their initial investigation showed that the woman was walking northbound along the canal and that she was fatally struck while trying to cross Pelandale Avenue.
Authorities are investigating after a man was fatally shot Friday night in Sacramento's South Natomas.
The California Highway Patrol said the three men were fixing a tire chain on the side of Highway 50 when they were struck by a driver who had lost control of his vehicle. All three suffered major injuries and were taken to the hospital.
A large portion of Highway 1 was reopened on Tuesday, but a nearly 7-mile stretch is still under a full closure, Caltrans District 5 said.
Santa Cruz police said the man is suspected of shooting someone at a campsite along the San Lorenzo Riverbed. The victim was taken to the hospital after he walked to an Ocean Street business and flagged down a resident for help.
Officers arrived at the Comfort Inn on the 2400 block of Mahogany Way around 8:37 p.m. and said they found a man who had been stabbed multiple times.
Hayward police said a woman and a boy were hit by a vehicle while they were in a crosswalk on Saturday evening. The woman died at the hospital, and the boy is expected to survive.
According to the CHP, the 23-year-old driver lost control while traveling at a high rate of speed. His vehicle then left the roadway, went through a chain link fence, slid sideways across a parking lot and crashed into a water wheel.
An arrest was made at the scene, but police have not yet identified the suspect or released information about what led up to the shooting. The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening.
The coldest system of the season is bringing heavy rain to Northern California and snow to higher elevations, with Sierra foothill communities also bracing for a chill.
Police said the suspect was driving near Sonoma Boulevard and Alabama Street on Feb. 8 when he allegedly struck a woman who was walking. According to police, he is suspected of intentionally hitting the woman multiple times.
