The suspect was observed running off when officers responded to a scene.
The longtime officer was standing outside his vehicle at the I-35W fuel spill scene when another vehicle zoomed through the scene in the wrong direction and hit him.
The probe will include an "independent third-party review of yesterday's tragic event," the organization's CEO Don Faul said in a statement Friday.
CBS News Texas confirmed the facility is not only the center of a police investigation but also at the center of a lawsuit by that autistic child's family.
"Our hearts go out to the athlete's family, friends, and the entire CrossFit community," Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker said.
An arrest warrant has also been issued for a therapist at the facility accused of throwing a 7-year-old non-verbal autistic child against a well.
The suspect, identified as Bo Williams Aurell, shot a sheriff's deputy three times while warrants were being served.
State Highway 183 closed for the second time in less than three days due to police activity.
The suspect faces multiple charges, including seven counts of aggravated assault, two counts of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, and one count of criminal mischief.
