NYT investigates Russia hack

The New York Times investigates how the Kremlin hacked, then leaked tens of thousands of emails from the Democratic National Committee and Hillary Clinton's campaign chairman. National security correspondent David Sanger discusses how a "series of people asleep at the wheel" -- including the FBI -- the White House's slow reaction and "missed signals" failed to prevent the Russian intrusion. "CBS This Morning" asked for comment from the FBI, the White House, the DNC, the Republican National Committee and the Trump transition. We did not immediately get a response.

N.J. student loan sharking?

Only on "CBS This Morning," the woman in charge of New Jersey's student loan program defends her agency against accusations it's out of control. The Higher Education Student Assistance Authority, also known as HESAA, is being accused of driving families into financial ruin when borrowers become sick, lose their jobs, or even die. Michelle Miller speaks with one mother being forced to pay back her son's student loans, more than a year after he was murdered.

NYT reporter on Canada's welcoming attitude towards Syrian refugees

Syrians fleeing the civil war are finding it hard to settle in Europe or the U.S., but Canada is embracing them. New York Times reporter and CBS News contributor Jodi Kantor spoke to Canadians who help Syrians find homes, schools, jobs and a way to navigate their new culture, and found the process can be surprising for both sides. Kantor joins "CBS This Morning" to discuss her front-page article, "Refugees Encounter a Foreign Word: Welcome" and Canadians' commitment to helping the refugees feel at home.
