"Our ICU's are full" with COVID, doctor says

Daily coronavirus cases in the U.S. have hit 100,000 for the first time since February, and children are among those hospitalized with the virus, particularly in hard-hit states in the South. Pence met with jeers at Florida event

When former Vice President Mike Pence took the stage in Florida to address a social conservative group, he was met with some jeers, and reporters in the room said some attendees called him a "traitor." Other potential 2024 presidential candidates expected at the event are Texas GOP Senator Ted Cruz and Florida Republican Governor Ron DeSantis. Politico Florida Bureau Chief Matt Dixon spoke to CBSN's Tanya Rivero about the next race for the White House.

Supporting homeless LGBTQ youth

The number of people without homes has risen 5.5% between 2016 and 2020. Many of those who are on the streets are youth within the LGBTQ community. According to the organization True Colors United, 40% of youth experiencing homelessness are LBGTQ, despite making up only about 7% of the country's youth population. Heather Wilkie, executive director of the nonprofit Zebra Coalition, joins CBSN's Lana Zak to discuss her organization's efforts to combat this issue.

Florida cuts mental health program for Pulse survivors

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is under fire after slashing thousands of dollars in funding for a mental health program that supports survivors and family members of victims in the 2016 Pulse nightclub shooting that left 49 people dead. Brandon Wolf, a survivor of the Pulse shooting and media relations manager for Equality Florida, joins CBSN's Lana Zak with his take on the governor's decision. Wolf also discusses the national campaign, #HonorThemWithAction, in remembrance of the Pulse shooting victims.

GLAAD president and CEO discusses transgender athlete bill in Florida

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a controversial bill into law banning transgender girls and women from playing on female sports teams. The Fairness in Women's Sports Act will go into effect July 1. The governor argues that it will protect "fairness and integrity of women's athletics." Florida is now the ninth state to have such a law on the books. GLAAD president and CEO Sarah Kate Ellis joins CBSN's Lana Zak with her perspective.
