It's unclear at this moment how the child contracted Monkeypox. Officials at Riverside University Health System were first notified about the positive diagnosis earlier this week.
The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health has confirmed the first death due to monkeypox from a county resident.
On Thursday LA County Department of Public Health officials announced that a person with monkeypox had died, and they were investigating whether the death was directly related to the virus.
Orange County confirmed their first monkeypox case in a child, one of 126 in the county. Instances of a child contracting the virus are extremely rare.
