The Cook County Sheriff's Police told them they were coming. The agency took an ad out on Backpage.com and warned it was "investigating and arresting" human sex traffickers and those who enable them by answering escort ads. "They still did it," Sheriff Tom Dart said. "We knew they would."
Even the inmates at Cook County Jail are getting a snow day.
Jairo Avitia, 25, attended a bond hearing Jan. 24 after he was charged with predatory criminal sexual assault, court records show. He was ordered held on $325,000. The next day, Avitia apparently attempted to commit suicide at the jail and was taken to a hospital for treatment.
