Chicago police say around 11:39 p.m., the teen was walking on the sidewalk in the 1700 block of North Lotus Avenue when he was shot in the left thigh.
The victim suffered blunt force trauma to the head and body and was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in critical condition and was pronounced dead a short time later.
The city worked to remove the graffiti immediately.
