The man accused of killing 23 people at a Walmart in El Paso, Texas in 2019 has plead guilty. Prosecutors recommend Patrick Crusius serve 90 consecutive life sentences. An international probe into the Malaysian Airlines flight shot down in 2014 finds “strong indications” that Russian President Vladimir Putin approved the missile. And a portrait of the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” -- 96-year-old Opal Lee -- was hung in the Texas Capitol.

Biden delivers 2nd State of the Union address

In his second State of the Union address, President Biden touted the country's economic gains and called on Republicans to help raise the debt ceiling, reform immigration and ban assault-style weapons. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders responded with a combative speech, criticizing Democrats and calling Mr. Biden "unfit to serve." LeBron James broke the NBA's all-time scoring record held by Kareem Abdul-Jabbar for 39 years. And “La La Land,” the hit Hollywood musical, is heading to Broadway.

No mass shooting threat from L.A. incident

Los Angeles police seized illegal guns and ammunition from a high-rise apartment where several rifles were pointed toward a nearby park and made an arrest but they say there isn't any evidence that a mass shooting was planned. Arkansas Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders will give the GOP response to President Biden’s State of the Union address. And at Sunday’s Grammys, all eyes will be on Beyonce -- who could become the most-awarded musician in Grammy's history.

Excerpts: Trump deposition in NY fraud probe

Video obtained by CBS News provides the first look at former President Donald Trump's deposition last summer in the New York attorney general's civil fraud investigation. Trump sat for questioning under oath on Aug. 10. After preliminary procedural questions from state Attorney General Letitia James, Trump makes an opening statement calling the probe "very unfair." In these excerpts, he then repeatedly takes the Fifth Amendment, refusing to answer any questions at all, including about his and his company's finances.

Man who maced cop on Jan. 6 to be sentenced

The rioter who maced Capitol police officer Brian Sicknick on January 6 will be sentenced today. Julian Khater, 33, pleaded guilty to spraying Sicknick, who died the next day of natural causes. An FDA advisory panel voted to switch to one COVID-19 vaccine formula.They'd like to see the covid vaccine offered more like an annual flu shot. And -- the selfie king of Colorado is – a bear! This one in Boulder went viral after snapping 400 selfies on a wildlife camera.

Bolton says Trump's 2024 campaign is "poison" for GOP and "will continue to go downhill"

Former national security adviser John Bolton told CBS News he is seriously considering a 2024 presidential bid and said that former President Donald Trump is a threat to U.S. national security who acted "very erratic" and "was not impressed by the gravity and the importance of the national security decisions he had to make." Trump’s campaign, he added, is "going downhill and I think it will continue to go downhill."

California mass shooter acted alone: police

Police in Southern California say the man behind the attack that killed at least 10 people and wounded another 10 during Lunar New Year celebrations was a 72-year-old who acted alone. They still don’t know his motive. Today is the first day that Americans can file their taxes. The deadline? April 18th. And the San Francisco 49ers punched their ticket to the NFC championship game against the Philadelphia Eagles by beating the Dallas Cowboys, 19 to 12.
