On Thursday, Governor JB Pritzker was on hand for a ribbon cutting at the new Brown Sugar Bakery manufacturing facility near 76th and Western.
Police said it happened last month on the far South Side. They said 41-year-old Lynn Resendez is charged with attempted murder and assault against an officer. Resendez had been on the run since September 2.
A 35-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other people, in their 50s and 60s were taken to different hospitals in critical condition.
Witnesses stated they saw an unknown male who was shooting at the entrance of the alley and fled the scene in an unknown direction afterward.
Chicago police say four people were shot in an alley near 61st and Justine - just east of Ashland around 9 p.m.
A reward for information has since climbed to $15,000.
Each of the incidents happened during various hours in the 7200 block of South Langley Avenue between Oct. 12 and 16.
The flames caused the Advocate United Church of Christ steeple to collapse, which hit an SUV and a house. At one point, that steeple was the highest point in the East Side, pastor Malcolm Griffith said.
In Chicago, one local group uses the day to empower young girls on the city's South Side. CBS 2's Shardaa Gray reports it's a day where simply being a girl is enough to celebrate.
The festivities kick off at 10 a.m. at the South Shore Cultural Center. This year's theme is "I am destined."
Each year, the event unites hundreds of girls to celebrate their strength and recognize the potential of Black girls in Chicago.
Two people were able to escape the fire near 66th and Lowe.

The robberies happened between 12 a.m. and 1 a.m. in the Bridgeport and McKinley Park neighborhoods.
Police say a group of five or six males drove up in a vehicle and stopped in the street near the victims before exiting with a firearm.
