Jimmy Smith, 45, was taken into custody on Friday, in the 9400 block of South Lafayette Avenue.
Chicago police said the woman was standing inside the residence, in the 9100 block of South Loomis Street around 10:15 p.m., when she was struck in the leg by gunfire.

There is no word about what led to the outage or when service is expected to resume.
The victim ran into his residence about a block away where Chicago Fire Department members responded.
The victim suffered apparent trauma to the neck area and was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police.
