In the video, a seventh-grade girl wearing a hijab is cornered by the lockers at Glenside Middle School in Glendale Heights – when a boy comes and puts her into a chokehold before slamming her to the floor. CBS 2's Jermont Terry reports.
Orland Park police said around 10:35 a.m., officers responded to a report of a battery in the 15400 block of Begonia Court where they learned of two battery victims and one suspect.
Terrence P. Clyne, 68, was charged with one count of hate crime and two counts of battery, one for each victim.
"He was targeted because of his faith, because he was Muslim, and that is something we must confront as a society. Islamophobia and hatred towards Muslims and Palestinians has no place in our community," Wadee Alfayoumi's father said.
Police say she was identified as the offender who defaced multiple businesses, an apartment building, and park property within an hour.
