Those who support and those against Sheriff Mendrick's stance on Illinois' assault weapons ban addressed the county board.

CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports those for and against Sheriff Mendrick' stance on the assault weapons ban turn up at a DuPage County board meeting to share their feelings.
"We do not individually decide which laws we will uphold."
Critics have said the sheriff does not have the authority to base law enforcement policies on his own personal views.
Six members of Congress, and several state lawmakers and DuPage County Board members, are calling on DuPage County Sheriff James Mendrick to take back his statement he will not enforce the state's new ban on assault weapons.
She says she's "honored to be a part of this historic moment" for Dupage County.
At least check in her race for reelection, Rep. Deanna Mazzochi is trailing her opponent, Jenn Ladisch Douglass, by less than 250 votes.
The 211 service also has a website connecting people with resources. It was made possible after the DuPage County Board allocate $1.6 million dollars to the project.
The COD Board voted in 2015 to fire Robert Breuder who was under fire for extravagant spending at the taxpayer's expense.
Voters in DuPage County are not limited to a single polling place.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
"These guys are really nomadic right now. And they're going to be on the move until they can find a vacant spot."
Experts in DuPage County said many are on the move right now, so people should be protecting their pets.
Domestic violence survivor advocates said they have been pointing to the abuse the woman faced since the 2020 incident.
