Runners says nothing compares to the Boston Marathon"

The Boston Marathon is more than just miles; it's about the people and why they run. For some runners, like Pilar Arthur Snead, it is a challenge they set for themselves. It is also just one step towards a momentous goal for Snead: running all six world marathons.

"I feel tired. I feel excited and happy. When I crossed the finish line, I was crying very serious tears of joy," Snead said. "You know what. Boston shows up for runners. I was so impressed with everybody out on the course."

Boston Marathon celebrates 50 years of wheelchair racers

The 2025 Boston Marathon marked the 50th anniversary of the first official wheelchair athlete in the race.

Back in 1975, 23-year-old Bob Hall completed the course in 2 hours and 58 minutes. He had received permission from the race director to compete using a wheelchair.

The makeshift racing chair Hall used bears little resemblance to today's high-tech equipment.

"I cut off the back real low. I angled the wheels," Hall told CBS News.

What it feels like waiting to start your first Boston Marathon

WBZ-TV's Levan Reid talked to a runner from Oregon who was at Boston Common waiting to board a bus to the starting line.

Jordan has run several marathons before, but never Boston. He was blown away by the energy and the size of the crowd. He said he wanted to get there early just to make sure he didn't mess anything up along the way. Jordan said he's going to try not to burn out too early in the race, but knows it'll be a challenge not to.

"Just the energy. The people. I've never been in a race this big," he said, adding that he had a special message. "I just want to say hi mom. I wish you could be here. We'll be thinking about you," said Jordan.

What's open and what's closed on Patriots' Day?

Patriots' Day is Monday, April 21 in Massachusetts.

Not only is it Marathon Monday in Boston, but it's also a special day to recognize where and how the American Revolution started.

Public schools are closed on Patriots' Day, as are state and municipal offices and courts.

Because it's only a state holiday, most stores and banks are open.

You can see the full list here.
