A handful of school districts canceled classes for Wednesday and others have issued a delayed start.
The district has 79 elementary schools but is projected to need as few as 51 to meet enrollment needs.
Dallas ISD could make the decision to cancel school as early as 1 p.m. Wednesday due to to the incoming winter storm.
Dallas ISD and Fort Worth ISD are monitoring road conditions, heating systems and safety protocols as a winter storm approaches Thursday. CBS News Texas will provide a list of all closures on our website.
"If we don't make financial changes, the deficit will grow," said Superintendent Dr. Lori Rapp.
The Lewisville Independent School District Board of Trustees approved a plan Monday to close five elementary schools and adjust campus boundaries due to budget difficulties.
"We actually have less money now, when you account for inflation, than we did in 2016," the superintendent said.
Parents and students in Coppell ISD are speaking out and planning multiple protests for Monday.
The district is facing a multi-million-dollar budget deficit, similar to many other districts across North Texas.
Project RightSize impacts 1,100 students, according to Superintendent Tabitha Branum.
Monday night, the Plano ISD school board is scheduled to vote on an issue that could result in the closure of four schools. Officials say it's due to declining enrollment and a $35 million budget shortfall for that school system.
Several school districts and universities are closing or delaying classes as a result of Tuesday's storms.
Parents believe that this year's flu season has been the worst for students, and doctors confirm that the numbers are increasing.
The water main break happened on Feb. 1, the school to close early.
Many North Texas school districts are closed Tuesday.
Across North Texas, multiple school districts are seeing a decline in enrollment.
Closing a middle school would save the district $2 million.
The City of Quinlan is currently under a boil water notice.
Many North Texas schools have a delayed start for Friday. Others remain closed.
