A total of 2,129 Dallas County residents have lost their lives due to COVID-19 illness after 37 more deaths were reported Thursday.
Dallas County along with North Texas members of Congress have created a fund to help support the U.S. Capitol Police Department following the Jan. 6 riot.
Dallas County Commissioners called an emergency meeting Wednesday night to approve a new contract with a software company to overhaul the current setup.
"These deaths are a result of the high number of COVID cases that have been reported over the last several weeks," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.
DCHHS is providing initial vaccinations to those most at risk of exposure to COVID-19 and 21,574 doses of COVID-19 vaccine have been administered at the Fair Park mega-vaccine clinic.
"While we just reported our deadliest week to date last week, and we're still seeing near record levels for COVID hospitalizations, we are starting to see some metrics go in the right direction," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.
In Dallas County, so far, four cases have been identified, and Dallas County Health and Human Services Director Dr. Philip Huang says there may be more.
Dallas County has now reported over 2,000 deaths due to COVID-19, which health officials call a "grim milestone."
