A native of the South Side, Shardaa graduated from Columbia College Chicago, where she earned her B.A. in journalism, and is a proud graduate of Homewood-Flossmoor High School. She is a proud member of the National Association of Black Journalists.

The River North Residents Association says what Near North Side residents are experiencing has been commonplace in many other Chicago communities.
Chicago Police say a man was stabbed at a Green Line station Friday night, but CTA officials say it's not on their cameras.
The goal is to make the new booster available this fall ahead of an expected winter surge of cases.
Roberts said a permanent solution would cost about $20 million and they are trying to get the money from Cook County.
"This is a state of emergency from what I see," said Dixmoor village president Fitzgerald Roberts.
One of those incidents turned deadly when a pedestrian was struck.
"All of those dollars matter so they can afford rent, utilities, their phone. All of those other things that are sort of a lifeline back into the community."
