Lunch Break: Star Treatment

Excellent service can make or break your meal. Enjoy star-quality treatment at these three places in today's New York Lunch Break. By Yvo Sin.

Stage Door Delicatessen

5 Penn Plz
New York, NY 10001
(212) 868-9655

Though the location may scream "tourist trap" and the menu will tell you this is a gussied up diner, the truth is, Stage Door Delicatessen is large - meaning you get seated fairly quickly even at its busiest - and the service is stellar. Never a sullen glance or sour look on their faces, the servers will patiently help you choose from the extensive menu, and refill your water with a smile on their faces. The food is solid diner food, but the service is what will get you to return time and again - they may never learn your name, but they'll treat you like a star.

Vetro

164-49 Crossbay Blvd
Howard Beach, NY 11414
(718) 843-8387

With its roots lying in Russo's on the Bay, the famed catering hall next door, Vetro's servers are all well-trained on how to treat a patron. The gorgeous space will already make you feel posh, but the doting staff, all too willing to help you with whatever you need, takes it to the next level. Each course is lovingly presented and explained by a server, and if you happen to make your way across the expansive dining hall to powder your nose when a dish is served, they will hold it back until your return, to prevent its getting cold. If weather permits during your visit, ask to sit on the terrace. The view of the water is lovely.

Quality Meats

57 W 58th St
New York, NY 10019
(212) 371-7777
qualitymeatsnyc.com

As with the other restaurants in the Fourth Wall restaurant group, Quality Meats boasts servers who know how to make you feel like a star. Steaksauce made tableside while you watch is just the tip of the iceberg; the food is superb as well. The steak tartare is enough to make a meal, but you'll want to save room for dessert: $8 will get you an individual ice cream cake. How fun is that? Waddle out happily, after indulging in all that is good... housemade ice creams put together to create a lovely cold treat.
