Bayonne, N.J., takes on Iowa in Little League World Series

The boys from Bayonne, New Jersey, continue their Little League World Series journey Sunday.

The undefeated 12U Little League team takes on the Midwest regional champions from Davenport, Iowa, at 1 p.m.

It's Bayonne's third World Series game after beating the New England regional champions from Bridgewater, Massachusetts, and the Mid-Atlantic regional champions from West Chester, Pennsylvania.

The winner of the Bayonne vs. Davenport matchup will advance to face the winner of Sunday morning's game between Henderson, Nevada, and Tacoma, Washington.

The losing team won't be completely out of the competition; they'll move to the elimination bracket, where they will have another chance to stay in the series.

After Sunday's games, the Little League teams will get to enjoy the MLB Little League Classic between the Atlanta Braves and Milwaukee Brewers.

This is Bayonne's first appearance in the Little League World Series in the team's 75-year history, following their first state championship and first Metro regional championship victories earlier this season.

Their historic run has thrilled the entire city. Busloads of supporters have made the three-hour trip to Williamsport, Pennsylvania, to cheer the team on in person, while watch parties at local businesses have been packed with fans.

"Who would've thought 12-year-old kids from Hudson County would be there? So proud of them," one fan said Friday.

"We're so proud of them, and we're looking to go all the way," Bayonne Mayor Sharon Nadrowski said. "The excitement's not dying down here."

The tournament continues this week and concludes on Aug. 30 with the Little League World Series Championship game between the U.S. champs and the international champs.
