Several new Illinois laws and tax increases take effect on July 1, 2025, including new rules for single-use plastics, a tipped minimum wage increase, and taxes on sports bets, vaping and gas.
Another law requires people using vape pens or e-cigarettes not only to take it outside, but also to move 15 feet away from building entrances.

Under the proposed ordinance, retailers would be barred from selling any flavored nicotine product. Violators could be fined up to $5,000 per offense.
The embattled electronic cigarette maker is paying its largest settlement to date over the teen vaping surge.
If passed, the ordinance would prohibit tobacco and vape stores from selling any product that contains THC - the active ingredient found in marijuana.
