Oak Park Detective Allan Reddins was shot and killed in the line of duty Friday morning, and on Saturday a Chicago man was charged with his murder.
Palatine police said just before 11:30 p.m. Friday, officers responded to a well-being check in the 1700 block of North Kicks Road.
Approaching officers responding to a domestic disturbance heard several gunshots from inside the home.
The shooting happened just after 5:30 p.m. at the Save gas station at 21st and Vermont.
Chicago police said the 17-year-old boy was standing in the street when a black vehicle pulled up alongside, and someone from inside fired shots in his direction.
The shooting happened just before 2:30 a.m. in the 2800 block of West Polk Street.
The victim was struck in the head by the bullet.
The victim was hospitalized in critical condition after a bullet came through his window in West Garfield Park.
Illinois State Police said there have been 79 shootings on Chicago area expressways so far this year, down from last year, when there were 129 expressway shootings in all of 2023.
The start of Thanksgiving turned violent on the expressway with two separate shootings in the early morning. Shardaa Gray reports.

The office of Ald. Timm Knudsen (43rd) said there is reason to believe the shooting was an isolated incident, and the victim and the shooter knew each other.

The local alderman said the man who was later shot was exhibiting "erratic and dangerous behavior" and attacked the shooter. The shooter then pulled a gun and opened fire, police said.

Lenier Clayton was driving home from work when 45-year-old Phillip E. Rogers allegedly shot him following an argument on I-80, police said.
Phillip E. Rogers, 45, is charged with first-degree murder and aggravated unlawful use of a weapon in the shooting death of 30-year-old Lenier Clayton, according to Illinois State Police. Sara Machi reports.
