A security guard carried a 12-year-old victim inside and rendered aid until paramedics arrived. A 16-year-old was also shot in the leg.
Organization members said he was working on outreach and was preparing to graduate with his high school diploma soon.
He was trying to turn his life around, trying to prevent violence, but instead, his life was cut short. Ronnie Roper, 28, was a member of the Chicago CRED organization. He was shot and killed near the group's outreach center in Roseland on Wednesday. A team member spoke with CBS 2's Shardaa Gray about what happened and how they're remembering him.
Chicago police arrested 31-year-old Terrance McNutt on Tuesday, in the 5600 block of South Ada Street.
Last year, Earley was walking near Wayne and Webster Avenues in Lincoln Park when he was targeted by two armed robbers.
Witnesses told police an unidentified man approached the car and shot at the victim before fleeing the scene on foot.

A second person has been charged in the shooting that left a young man named Dakotah Earley in a coma last year. An 18-year-old man has been charged with three felonies; including attempted murder, armed robbery and possession of a stolen car. His name has not been released and police said the suspect was 17 years old at the time of the shooting.
Nicole Watson, 44, was picking up her 13-year-old son, Jacob, from her parents’ home on the evening of Tuesday, May 9. They were getting in the car to go home when they were both shot. Nicole Watson was killed. CBS 2's Charlie De Mar reports.
A suspect was "confronted and killed on scene," police said in a statement.
