TSA officers caught 6,542 firearms at airport checkpoints last year, breaking the previous record of 5,972 firearms stopped at airports in 2021.

The Chicago Police Department is hosting a gun turn-in event to get weapons off the streets.
So far, the strike force has caught over 50 suspects red-handed in the Northern Illinois District.
The governor also called for a national ban on assault weapons.
Prosecutors said the man illegally dealt ghost guns, machines guns and rifles.
"The proposed ban is not just assault weapons and high-capacity magazines. It's standard firearms that everybody buys for protection and for sporting. If this is passed, it would absolutely shut down my business."
Before she was a political candidate, Kina Collins was an advocate of gun violence prevention.
"I am disgusted to now say that I am a survivor of gun violence."
Experts said it's because few residents are aware of the law and the process may be difficult for loved ones.
"They will certainly be required to be a little bit more guarded, in terms of how they deploy officers and more importantly, when encountering potential suspects in any particular instance."
Prosecutors said the two men illegally sold 10 firearms to undercover law enforcement officers on Friday.
The decision is expected to enable more people to carry guns legally in the nation’s largest cities. CBS News’ Skyler Henry reports.
