Sparks flew as a black Volkswagen sped inbound on the expressway.
The car was traveling about 90 miles an hour and, at one point, lost a tire. It came to a stop at Harrison and Ashland when police cornered it.

The victim was not shot but received treatment at the hospital for minor injuries from the crash.
Police said last Sunday, 31-year-old Lamont Ross shot at a car driving on the entrance ramp from Independence to the eastbound Eisenhower Expressway.
Preliminary information indicated that a black Mitsubishi sedan lost control for an unknown reason and struck the right concrete median before swerving left and striking a blue Hyundai SUV.
Illinois State Police announced that Ruben Barajas, 31, of North Riverside, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with attempted murder and aggravated discharge of a firearm.
Three vehicles were involved in the crash, and the victims all suffered non-life-threatening injuries, state police said.
At the scene, a mangled car was seen wedged under the trailer of a semi-truck on the westbound shoulder.
