North Texas heats up with record-breaking temperatures on the way

Heat wave approaching North Texas, Wednesday could reach 100° for the first time this year

Tuesday began a stretch of well above-average days in North Texas, with highs in the low to middle 90s across much of the region. While we didn't break records, we did tie the hottest day of 2025 thus far, coming in at 93° at DFW. We also hit 93° on April 13, 2025.

Wednesday looks to be even warmer as a ridge of high pressure builds to our south, and southerly winds continue pumping more hot air our way. Fortunately, humidity isn't all that high, so we're not factoring in much of a heat index.

Still, temperatures look to approach the triple digits. If we do reach 100°, it would be the first triple-digit day of 2025, and the earliest we have hit 100° since 2006.

And whether we reach 100° or not, we are looking to shatter the record for the date. The record for 5/14 is 95°, set back in 1955.

We have a First Alert Weather Day in effect for Wednesday, as it is our first near-100° day of the year.

A cold front moves into North Texas going into Thursday. Temperatures, however, still look to remain in the 90s for much of the extended period.

Storm chances do start to increase slightly as we head into the weekend. A dryline approaches from the west, and with a cold front stalled to our north, we are looking at an isolated to scattered chance for storms this weekend.

It's far from a weekend washout, but where those storms do pop up, they will carry a severe threat, so that is something to watch into the upcoming weekend.

As always, the First Alert Weather Team will walk you through it all.

Stay cool and limit time outdoors, check the pavement on the dog walks, and stay hydrated.
