Palestinian pastor on war in Gaza: "It feels that even God is silent"

The Rev. Munther Isaac, a Palestinian Christian in Bethlehem, says that, after nearly three months of death, destruction and shattered lives on both sides of the Israeli-Hamas war, there is no Christmas in the city traditionally viewed as the birthplace of Jesus. Correspondent Imtiaz Tyab reports on the somberness of Christmas 2023, from holy sites empty of pilgrims, to the despair felt by those caught in the conflict.

"Mercy flights" take injured Gazans to safety

CBS News' Imtiaz Tyab has been on a rare "Mercy flight" to airlift some of Gaza's most sick and seriously wounded — mainly of them children and their families — from the war zone to receive vital medical care in Abu Dhabi. Tyab talked to some of the passengers who shared their harrowing stories of sickness, survival, and, for some, separation as they leave behind loved ones in Gaza to seek desperately needed treatment in the UAE.

Doctor describes abuses suffered by Hamas hostages

About 100 Israeli hostages, kidnapped by Hamas during the terrorists' October 7 assault on Israel, have been released after more than 50 days in captivity. Dr. Itai Pessach (whose team at Sheba Medical Center, near Tel Aviv, interviewed and examined many of them) describes to CBS News' Lesley Stahl the harrowing physical and psychological abuses he says Hamas perpetrated upon its captives, from branding to rape, as well as the traumas that people on both sides of the border war are experiencing. [Don't miss Stahl's interview with freed hostages on "60 Minutes" Sunday, Dec. 17, on CBS and Paramount+.]
