At home with Architectural Digest

For more than a century, the pages of Architectural Digest magazine have captured not only timeless designs but also the spirit of their subjects' homes. Their distillation of private spaces is featured in a new book, "AD at Home: Architectural Digest." Serena Altschul talks with editor Amy Astley about the magazine's treatments; and with actor Liev Schreiber and designer Marc Jacobs about what it means to open up one's living space to the magazine's photographers.

Glenstone, the art museum built in nature

Mitch and Emily Rales built Glenstone to share their extraordinary collection of modern and contemporary art. But they wanted to make this a different kind of museum – a blend of art, architecture and nature. Located 20 miles from Washington, on a 230-acre estate in Potomac, Md., Glenstone features some 1,300 works by such legends as Louise Bourgeois, Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Andy Warhol and Jean-Michel Basquiat. Rita Braver gets a tour.

From 1979: Architect I.M. Pei on the JFK Library

I.M. Pei, one of the most heralded of 20th century architects, died on May 16, 2019 at the age of 102. In this "CBS Sunday Morning" report which aired on October 21, 1979, Pei talked with correspondent Marlene Sanders as they toured Boston's newly-dedicated John F. Kennedy Presidential Library (which he designed), and discussed creating a public space that captured the essence, and promise, of the man who was our nation's 35th president.

Architect Jeanne Gang on changing the shape of a city

Jeanne Gang, arguably the most important female architect working today, heads her own firm, Studio Gang, which is pushing the boundaries of the good that architecture can do, for connecting communities and for the environment. Gang talked with correspondent Martha Teichner about her most recent project, an expansion of New York's American Museum of Natural History, and about the skyscrapers, airport terminal, and other civic spaces she has designed in her hometown of Chicago meant to transform spaces, outside and within.
