CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) -- Their first three road games followed a familiar script, but, fortunately for the Steelers, so did this one.
CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) -- Perhaps, of all the Tomlin-isms we've heard lo these five-plus years, "the standard is the standard" is the one both quoted and satirized the most. In any event, it's the one that backup running back Jonathan Dwyer apparently takes to heart.
CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) -- Cornerback Ike Taylor downplayed whatever disconnect existed between him and the local media after the Steelers pulled out a much-needed 24-17 win over AFC North rival Cincinnati at Paul Brown Stadium Sunday night.
CINCINNATI (93-7 THE FAN) -- The local media became an easy target for Ike Taylor leading up to Sunday, while, at the same time, Taylor had become an easy target for opposing QB's. But head coach Mike Tomlin was satisfied with his performance in a 24-17 Steeler victory against the host Bengals.
CINCINNATI (AP) -- Ben Roethlisberger threw one touchdown pass, and the Pittsburgh Steelers overcame their injury-depleted running game to beat the Cincinnati Bengals 24-17 on Sunday night.
IOWA CITY, Iowa (AP) -- Bill Belton ran for 103 yards and three touchdowns and surging Penn State throttled Iowa 38-14 on Saturday night for its fifth straight win.
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) -- The final touchdown pass drew only a slight fist pump from Collin Klein. It was still the third quarter, but Milan-Puskar Stadium was half-empty. Most of the West Virginia fans had seen enough of a game that had turned into a Heisman Trophy campaign ad for the Kansas State quarterback.
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) -- Rushel Shell welcomed the wind and the rain, because he understood the conditions were ideal for the Pittsburgh Panthers to find a spark from their sagging run game.
Seems like we've done this before. Just two weeks ago, the Steelers were facing a must-win game against the Eagles. They passed that test only to stumble and lose any momentum in a come-from-ahead loss at Tennessee. That loss dropped the Steelers to 2-3.
With the exception of a couple potentially significant games Saturday, Week 8 of the 2012 WPIAL football season is in the books, and several more teams have booked reservations for the district playoffs after Friday night.
