Just before Jerry "Rello" Recco's first update of the morning, Boomer & Craig played a little game we like to call, "You Make the Call," as a way of paying tribute to the Yankees' radio broadcast team.
As the baseball world waited with baited breath last night, just prior to the start of the Yankees-Rangers game, the announcement finally came down. Derek Jeter was going to be placed on the 15-day disabled list because of his ailing right calf.
Curtis Granderson homered and drove in four runs, Eduardo Nunez -- filling in for an injured Derek Jeter -- sparked a six-run second inning with an RBI single and the New York Yankees beat the Texas Rangers 12-4 on Tuesday night.
Derek Jeter will need at least a week to recover from his strained right calf, and the New York Yankees waited Tuesday to decide to put him on the disabled list and delay his pursuit of 3,000 hits.
There's a new #1 this week, I think you know who it is. Here's a hint: they've won nine straight games.
Yankees catcher Russell Martin was back in the lineup on Sunday after missing four straight games from a stiff back. "Feeling good," he said. Well, Martin must have felt something not-so-good on Monday.
A few months ago, former Mets ballplayer, Rico Brogna, graciously agreed to address students taking my course on sabermetrics.
Ronnie from New Rochelle called in with a serious concern regarding Derek Jeter's pursuit of hit No. 3,000 He asked the guys if the Yankees captain would have special balls for his at-bats as the milestone gets closer.
To begin his first update of the morning, Jerry "Rello" Recco played a cut from a familiar voice as we listened to Suzyn Waldman describe Derek Jeter's early exit from last night's 1-0 Yankees loss to the Indians.

By now, most Yankees fans know about the provision in CC Sabathia's seven-year contract that gives him the ability to opt out after this season. If his comments Sunday night are any indication, the Yankees' ace might just be leaning against exercising the clause.
Bartolo Colon was placed on the disabled list Sunday with a strained right hamstring, the latest blow to New York's ailing rotation. But don't worry, Yankees fans. The Bombers -- and Colon -- feel he'll be back on the mound as soon as the hefty starter is eligible.
Derek Jeter admits reaching 3,000 hits is constantly on his mind. It's unavoidable with everyone talking about it. And he also knows there are only four games left on the Yankees' current homestand before they head out for a six-game road trip.
Curtis Granderson and Mark Teixeira's home run pace could allow them to become the first teammates to reach the mark of 50 since Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle in 1961. It would only be fitting if two present day Yankees match the accomplishments of the immortal 'M&M Boys,' and usher back memories of a bygone era in baseball.
Sometime in the next week or so, Derek Jeter will hold up his right hand to ask the plate umpire for time, give his bat one more ritualistic twirl and then, perhaps take an iconic inside-out swing and send another liner to right field to become the 28th player - and first in four years - to reach the magic number.

With Nick Swisher and Brett Gardner struggling, why shouldn't Joe Girardi turn to Chris Dickerson? The utility outfielder carries plenty of intangible qualities and could be just the spark the Yankees need.
The "Joba Rules" have been debated and dissected since Joba Chamberlain burst onto the Bronx scene in 2007. So now that he likely requires Tommy John surgery for a torn ligament in his right elbow, it had to be asked: Does Yankees general manager Brian Cashman regret how he handled his young hurler?
We all got tired of hearing about the Joba Rules, but the Yankees stuck with them. And in the end, Joba Chamberlain still got injured and needs Tommy John surgery. But don't think it means the Yankees are going to be any less careful with their pitching assets.
David Ortiz got more than even for getting drilled. Ortiz broke loose soon after CC Sabathia hit him with a pitch, starting and finishing a burst that led the Red Sox over the Yankees 8-3 early Friday. "Finally got hit," Ortiz said afterward in a short rant that included some profanity.
