Lunch Break: Dollar Deals, Comfort Food And Sweet Treats
Whatever your woe, we've got you covered with these lunch picks. By Yvo Sin.
Pop's Dollar Food Shop
427 7th Avenue, between 33rd and 34th Street
(inside Spinelli's Pizza/Gyro II)
Weekend left you a little tapped for cash? Not to worry: Pop's Dollar Food Shop saves the day. As the name suggests, the food nearly all costs $1. Hot dog, burger, fries, and a 12 oz. soda will each run you for one single dollar. If you want a bacon cheeseburger, give Pop himself - whose face graces the giant dollar bill on the wall, and often works the register - $1.75. While the food isn't quite healthy nor the best you've ever had, it will leave your wallet as full as possible while filling you up.
Chat-n-Chew

10 East 16th Street, between 5th Avenue and Union Square West
New York, NY 10003
(212) 243-1616

Feeling a bit blah from all the rain yesterday? Want something hearty to fill you up? Maybe you caught a cold from being out in the wind & rain. Head over to Chat-n-Chew, where you can find such comforting goodies as mac&cheese, chicken fried steak, meatloaf and more. If you overindulged a bit over the weekend, there are also plenty of salads on the menu; just remember that cheese contains lots of good-for-you calcium. Enjoy the kitschy decor while soothing your soul, or take it to go.

Lunch is over and the afternoon slump is hitting you hard. What do you do? Have coffee, of course. Skip the big corporate coffee shop on every corner and walk over to Financier Patisserie, now with nine locations all over Manhattan. To go along with your coffee, you'll find hand crafted pastries that will help you get through the rest of the afternoon. It doesn't hurt that the most expensive coffee - sized extra large - is $4.50, leaving you extra money for pastries.
