Burglars target multiple businesses on Archer Avenue on Chicago's Southwest Side
Chicago police on Tuesday were looking for the people responsible for a series of smash-and-grab burglaries in the Garfield Ridge neighborhood on Chicago's Southwest Side.
Police said at 2:55 a.m., three people broke through a glass window at the Borinken Cakes bakery, at 5328 S. Archer Ave. near the intersection with Cicero Avenue. The thieves took the cash register and ran off, police said.
Moments later, the front door of Fade and Blade, right next door at 5334 S. Archer Ave., was also smashed. The suspects got in, but nothing was stolen.
According to a post on Borinken Cakes' Instagram, a nearby Wingstop and Rosati's Pizza were also hit.
The Rosati's Pizza is located at 5905 S. Archer Ave., at Central Avenue, while the Wingstop is located at 6188 S. Archer Ave.
Due to erratic street numbering because Archer Avenue is numbered north-south despite running barely off-grid from east-west in this area, these businesses are actually located just south of 53rd and 54th streets, respectively, rather than near 59th and 62nd streets as the addresses suggest.
Police issued a notice about a burglary in the 5900 block of South Archer Avenue at 3:10 a.m., in which the burglars broke a front glass window and took the cash register.
The businesses targeted are all a short distance from Midway International Airport.
Police did not have anyone in custody in the burglaries as of midday Tuesday. Wentworth Area detectives were investigating.
