NEW YORK -- A man was charged with murder after he allegedly stabbed his teenage neighbor to death during a fight over a New York City parking space.

Police said they arrested 45-year-old Vladimir Lopez German on Thursday. He was also charged with manslaughter and criminal possession of a weapon.

Police said German fatally stabbed 19-year-old Dominic Cruz Aguilera during an argument over parking outside their apartment building in the Bronx that morning.

How the fight started

Aguilera's family said he went downstairs after German knocked on their door and asked someone to move the family's car.

Outside, an argument broke out between the two men. Police allege German pulled out a knife and witnesses said Aguilera was stabbed once in the chest.

Bleeding, Aguilera ran inside a grocery market near Inwood Avenue and Featherbed Lane in the Mount Eden section.

"Called 911, I stayed with 911, I got towels to hold the bleeding," said Wendy Reyes, who works at the market.

According to Aguilera's family, the ambulance arrived after 20 minutes. He was rushed to Lincoln Hospital, but did not survive.

Residents said cars are often double-parked in the neighborhood.

"Everyday, you parking your car, you can't move because it's double parked," said Domingo Quezada.

Hours after the stabbing, CBS New York saw cars double parked and parked near fire hydrants. There were also cars without license plates parked on Inwood Ave.

Suspect tried to flee country

Friday, German was remanded by a judge since lawyers said he tried to book a flight to the Dominican Republic after the stabbing.

Witnesses had said he fled the scene in a dark colored sedan.

The Aguilera family said they now plan to move out of the building.
