Shoppers crowded stores on Black Friday but spent just a little more than last year on the traditional start of the holiday shopping season, according to data released Saturday by a research firm. Retail spending rose a slight 0.3 percent, to $10.69 billion, compared with $10.66 billion on the day after Thanksgiving last year, according to ShopperTrak.
The cab driver who died Friday morning after the taxi he was driving crashed into a Hollywood home has been identified as Jean Elie Charles, according to Hollywood Police spokesman Lt. Manny Marino. Charles, 26, of Lauderdale Lakes was southbound on 56th Avenue at about 3 a.m. Nov. 26 when for an unknown reason veered off the road, smashed through a fence and crashed through the wall of Malcom Smith's home.
