It has been nearly two years since Mayor Brandon Johnson decommissioned the city's controversial ShotSpotter gunshot detection system and vowed to replace it with a "better" alternative.
There was no 911 call made after the shooting, and one alderwoman said she believes ShotSpotter technology, which was removed last year, would have helped in this case. Tara Molina reports.
Alderwoman Monique Scott (24th) said he was found in a backyard. She confirmed that ShotSpotter technology was in place in the neighborhood where the boy was found and says it could've helped police and first responders find him sooner, and she's not alone.
The move comes months after ShotSpotter was deactivated.
The six-month pilot program from Alarm.com is being offered free of charge in the Chicago Police Department’s Deering (9th) District. As Megan Hickey reports, Ald. Ray Lopez (15th) held a demonstration on Monday.
Details on this particular program, Alarm.com, are scarce. But it is known that this new gunshot detection system will kick off its test run tomorrow on the South Side. Andrew Ramos reports.
