A shooting in south suburban Matteson has claimed the life of a 9-year-old boy. Police have not released any details on what led to the shooting, and have only said the shooting happened Thursday night. The victim's grandmother identified the boy as O'Mauri Jones Brown.
"His mom moved out and he stayed here, because he didn't want to go to Chicago, because he was afraid of getting shot," the boy's grandmother said.
Tapia's vehicle was located a short time later in Waukegan but was unoccupied, police said.
Romeoville police said officers found a vehicle that had been reported stolen.

At 2:20 a.m. Saturday, in the 2600 block of West 23rd Place, a 17-year-old boy was a passenger in the back seat of a car when he heard shots and felt pain. The victim was shot in the left side of the head and was dropped off by the driver at Mt Sinai Hospital in good condition.
