Sentencing for defendants convicted in "ComEd 4" bribery trial delayed

The sentencing hearings for the four people convicted in last year's ComEd bribery trial​ were delayed. Last year, a jury convicted former ComEd lobbyist Michael McClain, former ComEd CEO Anne Pramaggiore, retired ComEd vice president John Hooker and former ComEd consultant Jay Doherty of conspiring to bribe former Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan​ to arrange no-work contracts and high-paying jobs to his allies in exchange for favorable treatment.

Tim Mapes, former aide to ex-Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan sentenced to prison

Tim Mapes, the longtime chief of staff to former Illinois House Speaker Mike Madigan, was sentenced to two-and-a-half years in federal prison on Monday for lying under oath to a grand jury to protect his old boss. A federal jury found Mapes guilty in August 2023 of one count of perjury and one count of attempted obstruction of justice. The perjury charge carried a sentence of up to five years, and the obstruction charge carried a sentence of up to 20 years.

Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson responds to criticisms over handling of migrant crisis

A major winter storm is bearing down on Chicago this week as more than 500 migrants were still waiting for shelter space in the city. More than 200 asylum seekers were staying in warming buses at the city's landing zone. Plus, three more charter buses from Texas were expected to arrive in Chicago on Thursday. Mayor Brandon Johnson has been vocal in pleading for help from the federal government to tackle the migrant crisis in Chicago.
