Fire safety a major concern amid extreme cold weather in Chicago

Crews were called around 10 p.m. Saturday to the building at 4901 W. Erie St., at Lamon Avenue.
In addition to the devastation there's a risk of landslides caused in part by the water used to fight the flames.
They expressed their concerns at a virtual meeting Thursday night, saying the new location is too close to their children's school.
The blazes have destroyed more than 12,000 homes and structures, and forced 200,000 Angelinos to flee.
A man, 50, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital for smoke inhalation and was listed in good condition.
Chicago police said just after 4 a.m., officers responded to the 8100 block of South Emerald Avenue, where officers saw fire crews at the scene fighting the fire.
The Elgin Fire Department said Wednesday that there was no evidence of suspicious activity in any of the three fires at the "tent city" at State and Kimball streets on Dec. 4, Dec. 12, and Jan. 11.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Firefighters pulled a man out of the fire, and he had burns throughout his body, and a laceration to his neck.
