Just as a trial was set to begin this week in Chicago, Boeing agreed to a settlement with a Canadian man who lost six family members in a 737 Max 8 plane crash in Ethiopia in 2019.

"At the very least, installers missed something," former NTSB member John Goglia said after the door plug blowout on an Alaska Airlines Boeing 737 Max 9 jet. "It calls into question the process."
The NTSB described a chaotic scene in the Boeing 737 Max 9's cockpit after the blowout, which forced the plane to return to Portland, Oregon minutes after takeoff.
After a door plug flew off an Alaska Airlines flight just 10 minutes after takeoff, all Boeing 737 Max 9s are grounded until they can be inspected.
NTSB Chair Jennifer Homendy said that "we are very, very fortunate" no one happened to be seated in the two adjoining seats to the blown-out door.
Right now Chicago-based United has 79 of the 737 Max 9 planes.
Thomas Girardi and two others are facing eight counts of wire fraud and two counts of criminal contempt of court.
Boeing must report to a Texas courtroom for arraignment on federal criminal charges in two deadly crashes involving the 737 Max Airliner.
