South Elgin police said just before 2 a.m. on Saturday, officers responded to the area of Randall Road at Stearns Road for a report of a single-car crash involving a gray 2021 Kia Sorento.
Vilmer Alcaraz, 32, of Chicago, was arrested Friday afternoon in the 5700 block of South Cicero Avenue.
The crash happened just before 3:30 a.m. on northbound I-55 south of Lemont Road in DuPage County.
First responders across Chicago and the suburbs were put to the test on Saturday, responding to at least a dozen water rescues and possible drownings along the lakefront, including responses at Navy Pier, 63rd Street Beach, and The Playpen.

A 27-year-old woman was pulled out of the water near Navy Pier around 5:30 p.m., and was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
Police said, shortly before 5:30 p.m., the boy was in Franklin Park, in the 1400 block of South Tripp Avenue, when an unknown person shot him in the lower back.
The lakefront was crowded, and so were public pools, as crowds headed out to keep cool by taking a dip anywhere they could.
Members of the Chicago Fire Department dive team and a helicopter were involved in the search.
The ages of the victims range from 11 to 63.
Jaylin Arnold, 27, of Chicago, was charged with felony counts including armed violence, possession of a firearm by a repeat felon, and possession of cocaine.
The car was seen on its side near the corner of Sibley and Cottage Grove.
