Severe weather is likely next Tuesday and Wednesday as tropical rains reach Dallas-Fort Worth.
Hurricane Beryl was heading toward Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula as a Category 3 storm on Thursday after rumbling past the Cayman Islands.
The rampant destruction comes as experts warn "it only takes one landfalling hurricane to set back decades of development" on island nations.
Hurricane Beryl was roaring toward Jamaica on Wednesday, with islanders scrambling to make preparations after the powerful Category 4 storm killed at least six people and caused significant damage in the southeast Caribbean.

Beryl's center is expected to move quickly across the southeastern and central Caribbean Sea Tuesday and is forecast to pass near Jamaica on Wednesday and the Cayman Islands on Thursday.
Triple-digit temperatures continue. A slight cooldown may be in store for North Texas towards the end of the week.
Beryl is now only the third Category 3 hurricane ever recorded in the Atlantic in June, following Audrey in 1957 and Alma in 1966, hurricane specialist and storm surge expert Michael Lowry said.
