Abbott is set to discuss border security with President Trump Wednesday afternoon, the White House announced early Wednesday morning.
On Wednesday, the Senate is widely expected to pass its version of a school choice bill.
Texas is the largest exporting state in the U.S., and business owners are concerned.
In an exclusive interview with CBS News Texas, Gov. Greg Abbott explained why he agreed when the Trump administration asked Texas to join their new plan.
"Taxes like this occurred during the first Trump administration," said Abbott. "And we got through it. Texas remained a very robust economy at that time. Same thing is going to happen this time. Everyone knows Trump uses tariffs as a tactic to achieve another goal. Everyone also knows that the number one priority for both Trump as well as the people of the United States of America is to have secure borders, to stop fentanyl and crime pouring across the border into our state."
Texas is booming and in his State of the State address, Gov. Greg Abbott laid out his vision to address key problems and to keep the "Texas miracle" accelerating into the future.
One of Abbott's biggest priorities is funding his school choice program.

Lt. Governor Dan Patrick told CBS News Texas the state will do whatever it takes to secure the southern border. His comments follow a number of Executive Orders issued by Governor Greg Abbott for state agencies to cooperate with the Trump administration.
More than 400 additional Texas National Guard troops arrived at the Texas-Mexico border Monday.

The Republican governor wants Congress to reimburse Texas for more than $11 billion spent on border security.
"The federal government has been derelict in its duty because immigration people say it's a federal issue."
The proposal also includes a solution aimed at protecting against the misuse of taxpayer dollars.
In a letter to Congressional leaders on Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott requested reimbursement for over $11 billion spent on Operation Lone Star, launched to secure the southern border during the Biden-Harris administration.
The speech underscored President Trump's continued focus on immigration, which he called the nation's "number one issue."
With his order, the Texas governor bypassed the national mourning period for former President Jimmy Carter.

Emergency resources have been activated across Texas for this week's winter storm.
A winter storm warning was issued due to the storm forecasted to bring sleet and snow to North Texas.
The plan is aimed at deterring migrants from making the journey to illegally cross the border from Mexico to Texas.
The Texas governor was under fire for his mistake in a message to the Carter family following Jimmy Carter's death.
