North Texas warms above freezing Tuesday afternoon before freezing fog arrives Wednesday morning

Temperatures in North Texas climbed above freezing Tuesday for the first time since last week, with highs near 40. It is cloudy, but the the ice on the roads will continue to melt.

On Tuesday night, temperatures will drop below freezing, and whatever moisture is left on the roads will re-freeze. There will most likely be icy spots on the roads Wednesday morning, along with widespread areas of patchy freezing fog, which may cause some light ice accumulation.

A First Alert Weather Day is in effect for Wednesday morning due to the chance for freezing fog.

Freezing fog is more dangerous than regular fog; Not only will visibility be reduced, but a thin layer of ice will also develop due to supercooled water droplets in the air clinging to any surface that is at or below 32 degrees. The added glaze of ice on roads, car windshields and bridges will lead to more travel concerns.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, temperatures will warm to 50 Thursday afternoon before another shot of very cold air moves in for Saturday. After that, all eyes are on next Monday as highs inch closer to 60.
